Peelable Paint – Dip Your Car A Wrap Alternative

Peelable, liquid rubber coating like Plasti Dip to a vehicle, often in a do-it-yourself (DIY) process, to temporarily change its color or protect the original paint. You can spray on a new finish for wheels, emblems, or the entire car to peel off later and revert to the original color.

How it works

  • Application: The process typically involves spraying the liquid rubber coating onto a clean, dry vehicle using a specialized sprayer.
  • Preparation: Thoroughly washing and cleaning the car is crucial to ensure the dip adheres properly, as water or dirt can cause it to bubble or lift.
  • Color options: A wide range of colors, pearls, and metallic finishes are available, including both peelable and permanent options.
  • Results: Creating the finish results in a durable, custom appearance that can be maintained with simple cleaning.

Benefits

  • Temporary: You can change your car’s color without making it a permanent decision, and you can remove the coating once you decide to return to the original color.
  • Affordable: It is often a much cheaper alternative to a professional paint job or a new paint wrap.
  • Protective: The rubber coating can protect the original paint from minor damage.
  • DIY friendly: Many people can perform this task at home, though it can be time-consuming.

Drawbacks

  • Time-consuming: A full car dip can take a significant amount of time to complete properly. Less time then a full vehicle wrap.
  • Requires maintenance: The finish requires delicate care and maintenance to stay in good condition. Example would be to add a ceramic coating, similar to Vinyl Wrap.
  • Can deteriorate: The peelable coating can deteriorate over time if it is not properly taken care of.
  • Application challenges: Some areas, like the roof, can be difficult to spray evenly. Need ladders and stools to be able to get high enough.

This is a VERY good alternative to any wrap whether it is a full wrap, partial wrap or even a chrome delete.

How long do these coatings last?

When properly applied, DYC products can easily last 5+ years or longer without having to be retouched. It is a very durable and resilient product. The spray technique when applying as well as the amount of coats applied will heavily determine the longevity of the product.  Making sure the product is properly cleaned and maintained also plays a big role.  DYC makes a full line of cleaning and maintenance products specifically designed for Dip to keep your dipped car or wheels looking its best.  Certain colors (typically bright Yellows, Oranges, Greens, Pinks and Fluorescents) can show signs of fading after prolonged UV exposure.  Keep this in mind when picking a color and expectations for longevity.

Will it hold up to the elements (sun, winter)?

DYC coatings are extremely resistant to the elements, including sun exposure, winter ice, cold, salt etc. A lot of customers actually dip their wheels and cars specifically to protect the original surfaces from the winter season. Please keep in mind however that certain products like Fluorescent colors, Blaze color and some bright pearls are subject to fading after prolonged UV exposure.  We highly recommend Dip Coat™ Protective Spray to reduce the chance of marring and to increase UV protection.

Is it possible to achieve a High Gloss finish with DYC do it yourself coatings?

It is possible to achieve a glossy finish using our Glossy DipPearl Topcoat over Plasti Dip Spray. However the gloss finish will not match what you find with OEM or factory clear coats. We feel that Do It Yourself products really perform best with Satin or Matte finishes.

What are the costs associated with peelable paint.

Costs associated with this process are around half of what it costs to do a wrap. Time it takes is around half of a wrap also. The process is much faster and cheaper for you as a customer.

What parts of my vehicle can this be used on?

This can virtually be used on any part of your car that you need either some protection on or just want to change the color of. IE Rims, Chrome Deletes, Brake Calipers, Body Panels, ect.
